About Your Instructor

I have been a D.V.S.A Approved Driving Instructor since October 2006 and have accumulated over 32 years of driving experience. With over 29 years as a professional driver, I have spent over 13 years driving Class 1 H.G.V.'s (artics) all over the country. This wealth of experience has granted me extensive knowledge of driver behaviour and competence in dealing with various road situations. My goal is to impart this knowledge to my students, enabling them to become competent and confident drivers.

Learning to Drive: What to Expect

The DVSA recommends an average of 47 hours of professional driving lessons and about 21 hours of private practice with family or friends. However, this may vary depending on individual learning rates and previous experience. The national average pass rate is approximately 43%, but at Andy Mackinder Driver Training, our pass rate is higher than average.

Getting Your Driving Licence: A Step-by-Step Guide

Below is a detailed process of obtaining your driving licence. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to call.

• Provisional Licence: Before you can drive on a public road or take your theory test, you will need a valid Provisional Driving Licence. You can apply online from the official 'Gov UK' site or obtain the application form (Form D1) from your local Post Office. You can apply for your provisional licence up to 3 months before your 16th Birthday, but it will not be valid until you actually turn 17.

• The Theory Test: You may not apply for your practical test until you have passed the theory test. The theory test consists of two parts: a multiple-choice questionnaire and a hazard perception video test. Both parts must be passed to receive your certificate.

• The Practical Test: Only once you have passed your theory test can you apply to take your practical driving test.
