Our History

M. Way and Son Transport was established in 1973 by Merv Way, who purchased a second-hand Dodge 500 flatbed lorry from John Evans of Barnstaple. The company started small, with operations run from the family-home in South Molton. Merv's wife Helen took care of the accounts, and the company grew steadily over the next few years.

In 1985, the company moved to a working yard at Molland, East of South Molton, and extended its fleet to 9 vehicles. The transportation of bulk loads, predominantly coal, became a larger part of the business. By 1986, the company had moved to new premises in South Molton and Merv's son Nick joined the family firm, soon to be followed by his sister, Karen.

In 1992, the company moved to Southley Road in South Molton and the fleet expanded to 20 vehicles, mainly Seddon Atkinsons and Volvos. The types of goods carried also diversified to include clay from local pits for delivery to Stoke-on-Trent and Hull.

By 2001, the company had moved into a business sector that required the purchase of walking floor trailers to transport waste paper to recycling plants. In 2005, M. Way and Son Transport purchased Eggbeer's Transport, a well-known firm in the transportation of local clay, increasing the fleet size to 44 vehicles. In 2006, the company relocated to its current location at Pathfields Industrial estate, on the outskirts of South Molton.
