Steeple Nursery School

Steeple Nursery School, located on a spacious green site near the heart of Antrim, first opened its doors in 1975 with an intake of 50 full-time pupils. Over the years, the school has evolved to meet the needs of the community, transitioning from full-time to part-time places. Our school now accommodates 156 children in part-time classes, with three morning classes and three afternoon classes, each comprising 26 children.

Our philosophy is centred on learning through play in an environment that fosters discovery, independence, and social interaction. We encourage children to take initiative, help themselves, and become increasingly independent to build their self-esteem and social competence. Establishing trust and ensuring comfort in their environment is crucial for children, and parents or consistent caregivers are asked to stay with their child until teaching staff indicate an appropriate and comfortable separation.

Our Approach to Learning

The Education and Training Inspectorate inspection commends our school for the children's progress in overall learning and development, aligned with the pre-school curricular guidance. The children settle in well, displaying positive attitudes and dispositions towards learning. They make independent choices, cooperate effectively with daily routines, and appear happy, content, and secure in the nursery environment.

The wide range of art materials we provide encourages children to use their creativity and imagination. We foster curiosity as they explore the natural world through age-appropriate topics and resources, both indoors and outdoors. Children engage enthusiastically with staff to discuss their discoveries, forming the foundations of scientific inquiry and observation.
