Castlegate House Gallery

Castlegate House Gallery is a specialist in 20th-century British and contemporary art, based in an unspoilt Georgian house within Cockermouth, Cumbria. Established with a commitment to showcasing internationally renowned artists alongside emerging talents, we curate works from iconic figures such as Leon Kossoff, Frank Auerbach, and Grayson Perry, while nurturing new creative voices through strategic acquisitions. Our expertise in British ceramics spans early Leach and Winchcombe examples to contemporary masterpieces by potters including Jim Malone and Edward Hughes. With two decades of operational experience, we combine deep industry knowledge with personal connections to artists' estates and academic institutions.

Our curatorial team holds advanced qualifications in fine art and maintains rigorous standards for provenance verification and conservation practices. As trusted stewards of cultural heritage, we facilitate private viewings in London alongside our gallery exhibitions, ensuring accessibility to national and international collectors. Our reputation for integrity is demonstrated through transparent documentation of artworks' histories and professional memberships within relevant arts organisations. Client relationships are nurtured through specialist art advisory services tailored to both novice and seasoned collectors.
