Our historic building, constructed in 1630, is the only remaining public house in the village. Conveniently located in the heart of Eyam, the inn previously went by the name of the Kings Head until 1764. The present name was adopted following the frequent gatherings of mine owners who referred to themselves as the Barmote Court. Here, they acted on matters such as land rights while mining lead and fluorspar. Since 1812, the inn has been utilised for meetings of the Prosecution of Felons committee, which remains active. As expected, the inn shares a rich history within its walls, further complemented by haunting legends. Reputedly, the inn is inhabited by two young girls who perished in a fire before it was built and by an ex-landlady who was murdered by her husband. It is believed that she still roams the corridors at night, dressed in an old-fashioned gown making a loud rustling sound.
