Explore Art & Culture at Williamson Art Gallery
Established in 1928, Williamson Art Gallery has been a cultural cornerstone in Wirral for nearly a century. Founded through Birkenhead Borough Council by philanthropists John and Patrick Williamson, we provide a welcoming space dedicated to art appreciation and community engagement. Our diverse programme includes free temporary exhibitions, nationally significant collections of paintings, sculptures, and maritime artefacts, and the UK's largest public Della Robbia pottery collection. The gallery features a contemporary caf offering meals and refreshments, alongside accessible facilities for all visitors. With a focus on education and inclusivity, we host workshops, courses, and events catering to schools, families, and special interest groups.

Our single-floor design ensures barrier-free access to galleries, complemented by an accessible toilet registered with Changing Places. Located minutes from Birkenhead's cultural heart, we combine historical significance with modern visitor amenities. Our team prioritises responsive communication, offering dedicated contact channels for general inquiries, venue hire, and educational visits. Regular newsletters keep patrons informed about upcoming exhibitions and events.
