Ryusui-Ryu martial arts clubs have been a staple in the South East since 2006, offering high-quality instruction in a unique blend of karate and Aikido. Our classes cater to students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners, and are designed to help you achieve a healthier mind and body while learning valuable self-defense skills.
About Our Classes
At Ryusui-Ryu, we pride ourselves on providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all our students. Our classes are run by highly motivated instructors who are fully qualified and trained to the highest standards. All of our instructors have undergone DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks as part of our safeguarding children and vulnerable adults strategy, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment.
Our classes offer a range of benefits, including stress relief, improved mental health, a better understanding of your body, improved focus and concentration, increased balance and flexibility, and improved reflexes and coordination. Parents have also noted improvements in their children's behavior and school work since attending classes.
Our curriculum is designed to be accessible to students of all ages and skill levels. We offer three different programs, each tailored to the specific needs of our students:
- Junior Classes (Age 7 to 14 years) - This program, known as our "Little Ronin" program, is designed for younger children. It uses a belt and badge system to reward and motivate the children as they progress.
- Junior Classes (Age 14 to 18 years) - At this age, we find that children respond better when they train with adults. However, we also understand that each child is different, so we work closely with parents to determine the best course of action for their child.
- Adult Classes (Age 18 and Upwards) - Our adult classes are open to all students aged 18 and upwards. We offer a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where students can learn at their own pace.
The Ryusui-Ryu Style
Ryusui-Ryu is a unique style of martial arts founded in July 2006 by Sensei Dave Waters. Sensei Waters has derived the school after many years of study in different martial arts, including karate, aikido, Iaido, judo, kyudo, and wing chun. Our style blends traditional karate and aikido with contributions from other martial arts techniques to form a cohesive and effective martial art.
The name Ryusui-Ryu means "like flowing water, " and this is exactly the emphasis placed on the application of our techniques. Our style is completely non-competitive, with an emphasis on relaxed, flowing movements. The aikido, taught by Ueshiba Sensei, and the karate, which originated from mainly Shito-ryu and Goju-ryu styles, have been modified and blended into a unique mix to form Ryusui-Ryu.
