At Howie and Tickner Opticians, our story begins over 60 years ago in the early 1960s, when we were known as A J Howie Optometrists. In May 1995, we became Howie and Tickner Optometrists, and we've been proudly serving our local community in a caring and professional manner ever since. Eye Exam
Using the full extent of our training and skill, and with the aid of the most up-to-date technology, our comprehensive eye exam includes:

Children's Test
We provide eye examinations for all ages. Children under the age of 16 or up to 18 and in full-time education are entitled to a free NHS eye examination. Our optometrist will make sure the sight test is a fun experience, so you and your child will feel at ease.
Low Vision Assessment
Our low vision assessment determines how you can make the most of your remaining vision. We check both your distance and near vision, colour perception, and visual fields. We also discuss and demonstrate various visual aids, such as telescopes and handheld magnifiers, as well as provide tips on eccentric viewing or colour labelling. As part of the NHS Scheme, we supply low vision aids free of charge to eligible patients.
Sea2See
We are proud to partner with Sea2See, designing and producing optical frames and sunglasses made from recycled marine plastic collected by fishermen in Spain, France, and West Africa. Every pair of Sea2See glasses not only supports a sustainable and eco-friendly industry but also supports vital marine conservation efforts.
