Manor Rest Home is a corporate founder member of The Relatives & Residents Association (Essex) and is dedicated to upholding their philosophy of assisting relatives and residents whenever possible. Our primary aim is to create a safe and comfortable environment for our residents, one that feels like home. We strive to ensure that our residents receive the respect that is befitting of their position in society and that they are cared for by professionals who are both caring and friendly.
Manor Rest Home has 19 beds, with 12 in double rooms and the remaining 7 in singles. Our communal spaces are ample and our gardens are large and accessible. We believe that our home is not too small to feel lonely, but not too large to get lost in. Our stable and well-trained workforce is motivated and caring, and we serve nourishing home-cooked food that caters to different tastes and diets. Special requirements for smokers, diabetics, gluten-free diets, and other dietary needs can all be accommodated.
Our objective is to provide a warm, stable, and comfortable environment with professional care that is tailored to the individual. We promote the core values of care and a person's basic rights, including individuality and identity, dignity, independence, privacy, choice, rights, respect, and partnership. We also believe in the right to self-worth, the right to take risks, and the right to live as an independent entity.
Situation of Manor Rest Home
Manor Rest Home is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road that leads to the sea in one direction and to Westcliff Station in the other. The home is ideally positioned with bus stops, shops, post office, and pubs all within a short walk. The local shopping areas at Southend-on-Sea and Leigh-on-Sea are also close by and easily accessible by bus or train. The home is located only 45 minutes from Westcliff Station (direct line) to London. For residents who like to get out and walk, there are several options, from a bench at the bottom of the road that provides an excellent spot to sit and watch the world go by to stimulating walks to Southend's famous pier or Old Leigh Town.
Philosophy of Care
Our philosophy of care is to deliver professional care in a manner that is supportive of our residents' individual needs. We believe in providing high-quality care that is tailored to the individual and delivered by motivated staff that are supported by strong management and high levels of training.
The Team
I, Mrs Rebecca Hart, am a very much hands-on proprietor with over 10 years of experience in the NHS. I have been running Manor Rest Home since 1984 and have undertaken various training courses such as the Food Hygiene and Safety Supervisors course. My husband, David, is also involved in the day-to-day running of the home and holds a BSc (hons) in Building Surveying and an MSc in Gerontology from The Age Concern Institute of Gerontology at Kings College London. He has completed the Registered Managers Award NVQ Level 4 and has recently achieved a Level 5 Diploma in leadership and management from the Chartered Management Institute.
Our senior carer, Miss Barrett, has been with the home since 1995 and has undertaken various training courses (first aid, lifting and handling, basic food hygiene, dementia awareness) and has completed an NVQ Level 2 course, an NVQ Level 4 in Care and an NVQ Level 4 in Management. Many of our staff have been with the home for in-excess of 5 years and have partaken in a variety of training courses: first aid, lifting and handling, basic food hygiene, dementia awareness, falls management health and safety. Of the care assistants, most have achieved NVQ Level 2 and some have achieved NVQ Level 3. Recently 6 staff have completed the ASET Level 2 certificate in Dementia Care, 2 the ASET Level 2 certificate in Infection Control and 2 the ASET Level 2 certificate in Medication. Further training is arranged for the next 12 months.
