Reading, Writing, and Mathematics
We place a strong emphasis on reading, writing, and mathematics, as these are the foundation skills that enable every child to access the wider curriculum. We use a variety of reading schemes and strategies to promote a love of reading, and we provide regular writing opportunities that allow every child to express their ideas and creativity. In mathematics, we follow the National Curriculum and use a range of resources and manipulatives to support conceptual understanding and problem-solving.
Humanities, Art and Design, and Science
Our humanities curriculum covers history, geography, and RE, and we aim to provide a rich and engaging learning experience that helps every child to develop a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world. Our art and design curriculum encourages every child to explore their creativity and express their ideas through a range of media and techniques, while our science curriculum promotes a sense of inquiry and investigation, and develops skills in hypothesis testing, data analysis, and critical thinking.
PSHE, RSE, Computing, PE, and MFL
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum promotes personal, social, and health education, and helps every child to develop a sense of self-awareness, self-regulation, and social responsibility. Our computing curriculum develops digital literacy and computational thinking skills, while our PE curriculum promotes physical activity, fitness, and teamwork. Our MFL curriculum introduces children to modern foreign languages, and helps them to develop basic language skills and cultural awareness.
Safeguarding and Online Safety
We take safeguarding and online safety very seriously, and have robust policies and procedures in place to protect every child from harm. We provide regular training and support for staff, parents, and carers, and work closely with external agencies to ensure that every child is safe and secure. We also promote safe and responsible online behaviour, and provide regular guidance and support for children, parents, and carers.
Admissions
Lancashire County Council is the admissions authority for community and voluntary controlled schools, and there is one admissions policy for all these schools. The policy sets out how to apply for the school and how to apply if the school is over subscribed. If there are more applications than places available, then for all community and voluntary controlled primary schools in Lancashire, the following admissions criteria is used to decide who has priority for admission. All the preferences for a school are considered equally, and the criteria below are applied in priority order.
