Our 20-acre private gardens, nestled in the heart of Ardleigh, near Colchester, Essex, are a treasure trove of unusual trees, shrubs, perennials, and bulbs. Professionally designed by our owner, Fiona Edmond, the gardens are a masterpiece of horticultural art, boasting a stunning array of plants that thrive in our unique "island microclimate."

Our gardens are open to the public throughout the year, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. As you wander through the gardens, you'll discover a series of structured gardens, each one showcasing a different theme or style. From the tranquil Japanese garden to the vibrant seaside gardens, every area is meticulously maintained to provide interest and beauty throughout the seasons.

Nursery and Plant Sales

Our nursery has grown to cater to the demands of our visitors, offering a vast range of shrubs, herbaceous plants, and bulbs for sale. We're proud to supply plants to gardens designed by Fiona for private clients. You'll also find a selection of ornamental trees, including a variety of Acers at reasonable prices. Our knowledgeable staff, including Fiona herself, are always happy to offer advice on plants and gardening.

Tea Room and Refreshments

After exploring the gardens, take a break in our charming tea room, where you can indulge in a range of delicious home-baked treats, freshly made sandwiches, and soups. Traditional cream teas can be ordered in advance, making it an ideal spot for groups and private parties. Be sure to browse our photographic exhibition, featuring wildlife photographs taken by Fiona's parents, and our garden design exhibition, showcasing Fiona's work with private clients.

Events and Courses

Throughout the year, we host a range of special events, including outdoor theatre performances, seasonal talks, and garden design courses. Our Season Ticket holders can enjoy exclusive benefits, including free entry for RHS members on specific dates and discounted admission for groups.
