Our Humble Beginnings
The story of The Barn begins with a group of passionate post office workers in Peterborough. Driven by a love for gardening and a desire to share affordable quality plants, they formed the Peterborough Post Office Horticultural Society in 1976. Led by David Wilson, their entrepreneurial spirit blossomed, eventually leading them to their first home - an old barn on Gunthorpe Road. This is how the name "The Barn" came to be.

Over the years, The Barn has witnessed several transformations, evolving from a humble seed-sharing venture into a thriving garden centre. Guided by David's vision and later Paul's entrepreneurial spirit, the business has always maintained a commitment to quality and affordability, offering a vast selection of healthy plants, gardening materials, and delightful treats at competitive prices.
