Our organisation is based in a spacious and fully equipped studio located centrally in North Shields, providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment where individuals can discover and develop their creativity as a means of supporting their mental health and personal recovery.

Our Organisation: Transforming Lives Through Art
At North Tyneside Art Studio, we believe that engaging in creative arts can provide a broad range of health benefits, including improved motivation, increased social engagement, enhanced self-confidence, and emotional regulation. We offer our members access to a safe, non-judgemental environment where they can explore their creativity at their own pace, discover their full potential, and achieve sustainable mental health improvements.
Our 12-month referral programme is designed to develop art as a life-long, independent tool to support personal recovery, and it is based on three distinct stages of development:
- Engage (0-3 months): Workshops and dedicated support specially designed to help our members gain creative confidence, recognise their achievements, and build resilience within a friendly, social setting.
- Enable (4-12 months): Personal, creative exploration and specialist workshops develop an understanding of how art promotes emotional regulation and builds the skills they need to use art to independently support their mental health.
- Empower (12 months+): Our Empower community provides ongoing support sustain and maintain mental health as part of our members' ongoing personal recovery.
Art for Mental Health: Inclusive, Accessible, and Empowering
Our studio is available to people living in North Tyneside who are experiencing mental health problems, often facing multiple disadvantages and social isolation. Our studio offers free access to materials, tools, and facilities for the first 12 months. Additionally, we offer a varied and ever-changing programme of workshops and projects designed and led by professional artists in a variety of artforms, enabling our members to develop a unique and personal approach to using art to support their mental health.
While we strive to meet a wide variety of access needs, we do not provide dedicated 1-2-1 support, and individuals need to be able to work independently and safely navigate the space, following simple creative and safety directions, or be able to do so by attending with a dedicated support worker.
