Our Team
John Cusden, the founder of John Cusden Garden Design, is a qualified and experienced gardener and garden designer. He holds a Professional Diploma in Garden Design from Merrist Wood College, Guildford, Surrey, and a General Certificate in Horticulture from Plumpton College, Plumpton, East Sussex.
John's designs are sensitive to the specific environment and accurately capture the requirements of a brief, thanks to his strong horticultural background and intuitive ability to know what is right for a site. He works with a select team of skilled craftspeople and landscape specialists, ensuring all aspects of your garden needs can be covered with a single call.
Garden Design
Our design process includes several stages, tailored to your specific needs:
1) Initial Consultation: We offer a free, no-obligation on-site consultation to discuss your requirements and explain the design process. We encourage you to bring a selection of pictures to illustrate your ideas.
2) Site Survey and Analysis: If you decide to proceed, we conduct a detailed site survey, recording existing levels, soil type, aspect, and the presence of trees. For larger gardens and challenging sites, we might employ the services of a land surveyor.
3) Concept Plan: We develop a number of concept plans for you to consider. We support these with a visual mood board illustrating the overall feel of the design.
4) Masterplan: Once you have chosen your preferred route, we create the final masterplan, outlining every detail of the design.
Planting Plans
Our professional planting plans can transform a tired flowerbed into something vibrant and full of life. We consider the specific environment and the plants' compatibility with local wildlife.
Border Redesigns and Garden Renovations
We can rejuvenate or replant an unloved part of your garden, creating a unique and special space that reflects your personality.
