The Bournemouth Gardens Community Tennis Club is a hidden gem nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Bournemouth Gardens, adjacent to the Bourne Stream. This publicly-owned facility is managed privately by The West Hants Club, a distinguished sports club with an exceptional reputation in the tennis world. Established in 1987, the club has been a welcoming space for local residents and visitors alike, offering the unique opportunity to enjoy tennis in Bournemouth throughout the year, both indoors and outdoors.

Our facility boasts five floodlit outdoor courts, four of which are artificial grass and one macadam, as well as three acrylic courts enclosed in an airdome from October to April. The Club House provides changing rooms with showers, disabled access, a licensed bar, and a cafeteria for the convenience of our members. Additionally, we have a well-stocked Pro Shop that sells a variety of rackets, balls, tennis clothing, shoes, and accessories. We also offer a professional racket stringing service.

Membership and Court Hire

Our membership options are designed to cater to the needs of local residents, with 80 memberships available per household for a year. Alternatively, non-members can hire courts from 8 per hour.

Coaching Team

Our coaching team is led by Matthew Coombes, the Club Manager/Head Coach. Matthew has been part of the club since 1987 and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the club, Pro Shop/Restringing, and Coaching Program. He takes individual and group sessions and is the coach for the Bournemouth University Mens and Ladies Tennis Teams, who both compete in the BUCS Premier Division and use the club for their training and home matches.

Matthew has been involved in tennis all his life and has won numerous junior, adult, and seniors titles. He is currently the Captain of the Great Britain Over 50's team, travelling the world to compete in the ITF World Team Championships and International events. He has won the Hard, Grass, and Indoor court Championships of Great Britain and has achieved a career high ITF World Over 45 ranking of No 3 in 2012.

Our coaching team is dedicated to providing high-quality coaching sessions to players of all ages and abilities. We offer 55-minute individual lessons at indoor and outdoor courts, with prices available upon application.

Our Pro Shop offers a wide variety of tennis equipment and accessories, such as rackets, balls, tennis clothing, shoes, and professional stringing services. Our knowledgeable staff is always available to help you find the perfect equipment to enhance your game.

Reviews
Positive: The facilities and staff are highly praised.
Negative: The main drawback is the seasonal disruption to the hard courts.

Tennis Facilities and Staff

The tennis facilities are described as "good quality" and "beautiful, " with a variety of outdoor and indoor courts available throughout the year. The staff is also praised for being "great" and helpful, although there seems to be a discrepancy in their availability, as it's noted that it can be difficult to get someone to answer the phone.

Seasonal Disruption

However, there is a slight disappointment regarding the hard courts, which are unavailable for half of the year due to the dome being quite expensive even for members.
