Where childhood memories are made, and lifelong learning begins.

Mathern Day Nursery, located in the heart of Chepstow, has been providing exceptional care and education for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years since 1989. Over the past 31 years, we have built a reputation for delivering the highest standard of service, based on a family atmosphere that allows all of our staff to get to know each child. We offer full or part-time places from 8:00am to 6:00pm, closing only for bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year.

Our sister nursery, North Gate House in Caerwent, operates under the same ethos, offering a warm and welcoming environment for children to learn and grow.

Our Staff

Mathern Day Nursery was established in April 1989 by Mandy Gore, who continues to run the Nursery to this day. Our team of friendly and skilled professionals is committed to providing quality and affordable childcare, where children can develop and grow in a fun, happy, and stimulated environment. Our nursery is an English-speaking setting, but we incorporate Welsh into our everyday activities.

Fees

We offer competitive rates for our full or part-time places, with an option of an early start from 7:00am for an additional charge. We also cater for special dietary needs and food intolerances, providing fresh, home-cooked meals for the children.

Rooms

Our nursery provides a wel-balanced programme of rest and play in a safe, stimulating, and secure setting. We encourage children to develop their ideas, creativity, and feelings naturally and freely, with rooms tailored to each stage of their development. Initially, the nursery catered for children from 2 1/2 years, but we soon expanded to cater for younger children and babies, with the introduction of an upper floor to maintain the external appearance of the building.

Our Community

Our location within a rural village allows us to take the children on walks in pleasant countryside and a quiet village, with outdoor play being an essential part of development. We have a large garden/playground with a variety of equipment, as well as a field at the rear of the building, which the children can explore in safety. The nursery is managed by Lisa Hayes, with Mandy splitting her time between Mathern and Caerwent nurseries. This hands-on approach ensures that the quality of care and family atmosphere has been maintained for over 32 years.

A team of 16 Nursery nurses, with a wide range of experience and formal qualifications, focus on the care and development of the children that they look after. Staff turnover at the nursery is very low, providing a stable and secure environment for your child's development.

The Nursery is an ESTYN approved provider of Early Years education, with our pre-school room's curriculum linked to the Foundation Phase. Under current legislation, we maintain the highest standards of care and education, ensuring that each child reaches their full potential.

Reviews
Positive: The nursery is considered to be very good by one reviewer.
Negative: Poor communication and lack of responsiveness in terms of service.

Service Issues

The review by Rosie Brown highlights dissatisfaction with the response time and communication from the nursery. Despite emailing three times about enrolling a child, there was no response, leading to a sense of poor service. However, once contact was made via telephone, it was established that there was no availability. The lack of communication and responsiveness was seen as a negative aspect.

Correct Location

Chris Dadswell points out that the location of the day nursery is not in Mathern Village Hall, but rather in the old Mathern school further down the road. The nursery is considered to be very good by this reviewer.
