First Steps

First Steps Nursery, established in 1996, is a renowned and highly sought-after nursery located in Irvine, Ayrshire. We are proud to have been the first purpose-built nursery in the town, and over the years, we have developed a reputation for providing high-quality learning and childcare experiences to children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years. Our nursery is registered with the Care Inspectorate and North Ayrshire Council and has consistently received positive reports and feedback from both inspectors and families.

At First Steps Nursery, we believe that every child deserves a homely and supportive environment in which they can learn and develop through play and positive interactions with staff and their peers. We provide a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere where children feel safe and comfortable, allowing them to express themselves and build confidence.

Engaging and Stimulating Opportunities

We value the benefits of both indoor and outdoor environments and strive to create engaging and stimulating opportunities for play and learning across our playrooms and gardens. Our experienced and dedicated team of 18 fully qualified and 1 trainee staff members ensure that we offer the best possible early years experience for children. Our staff are registered with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), and we prioritise ongoing professional development to ensure that our practices remain up-to-date and of the highest quality.

Partnership with North Ayrshire Council

First Steps Nursery works in partnership with North Ayrshire Council to provide fully funded places to children aged 3 to 5. Children aged 3 to 5 can receive up to 1140 hours a year of fully funded childcare - this equates to 30 hours per week term time, or 23.75 hours per week over 48 weeks. We welcome applications for funded places and recommend applying as soon as you have decided on First Steps Nursery for your child's funded nursery place, as places are limited and priority is given to children already attending the nursery.

Ownership and Management

First Steps Nursery is owned by Alison Latta and Debbie Simmers, who are also the owners and founders of Woodland Outdoor Kindergartens in Glasgow. The nursery is managed by Jenn Low, with Diane Roberts and Kathleen Cook as Depute Managers. Our management team is dedicated to providing exceptional care and education to our children and ensuring that our nursery remains a leading choice for families in Irvine and the surrounding areas.
