CASE STUDY: 18TH CENTURY DUTCH MARQUETRY CHEST
A prime example of Surrey Antiques' restoration work is the 18th Century Dutch Marquetry Chest, which was damaged by a fallen candle, burning the top and severely damaging the marquetry inlay. Gary carefully cleaned and detailed patterns of all the damaged timbers, including extensive photographic records. All burnt timbers were removed, and detailed marquetry inlays were reconstructed before being re-assembled into the chest. The result is a beautifully restored piece that retains its original character and charm.
