Moray Waste Busters: Our Journey and Mission

Founded in 2002, Moray Waste Busters began its journey as a food recycling, wormery, and composting site. This focus on recycling and composting is why we still have our polytunnels today, where we produce compost from food waste collected from local businesses. However, we soon identified a new mission as we observed the volume of reusable items being discarded at the nearby recycling center.

Today, Moray Waste Busters is a thriving social enterprise that aims to reduce waste by saving items from landfills and promoting their reuse. Our social aims are equally significant. We are committed to donating reusable items to community groups, schools, and other social enterprises; providing supported placements, work experience, and volunteering opportunities; and delivering free environmental education visits to local schools and community groups. We take pride in our dedication to making a positive impact on both our environment and our community.

Our business aim is to continue growing, remaining self-sufficient, and creating more jobs as a Real Living Wage employer. Currently, nearly all of our 29 team members started as volunteers or came to Moray Waste Busters through work placements. We have developed a passion for reuse and what we do, which is why most of us have stayed. Our General Manager, Phil Mills, leads the day-to-day operations and works closely with our volunteer Board of Trustees. The Board guides our charity's activities, formulates long-term strategies, and helps steer us into the future.

Our friendly staff includes Ian and Grymmsy, our reliable delivery and collection team, and well-known faces like Callum, Lisa, Lynn, Yvonne, Peter, Paul, and Fran. We are also fortunate to have a team of dedicated volunteers who give up their free time to help us. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us.
