Our History

Wagstaffes of Whitchurch has a rich history that dates back to the 1940s. The business started as a shoe repair and small leather goods maker, run by Fred Wagstaffe and his sons George and Harry. In the early 1970s, the two sons moved the business to larger premises and expanded into footwear retail, while retaining the repair workshop.

The store was sold when George and Harry retired and has changed hands twice before being purchased by the present owners, Andy and Nikki Bettison, in 2007. In 2008, Wagstaffes moved again to larger premises, where it remains today. The addition of ladies' fashions came later that year, and in 2012, two unused stock rooms on the basement level were converted into a gift shop, Huckleberry.

Throughout the trading history of the business, the ethos has remained the same - quality goods and excellent customer service. We are proud of our heritage and look forward to helping you find just what you're looking for.
