Where Quality Meets Excellence

Wm. Wheat & Son is a family-run business that has been providing top-quality plants, flowers, and gardening services to the community for over 80 years. Established in 1937, our mission is to offer the best products and services to our customers, ensuring they receive the best value for their money.

Our History

Our story began with William 'Bill' Wheat, who had a passion for horticulture and a determination to educate himself. Born in 1908, Bill left his job as a miner and started a new life in Streetly, where he worked at Hardwick nurseries as a nursery manager. He rented a cottage in Aldridge road, Streetly, and built his first greenhouses with his wife, Phyllis. They started selling produce from their garden gate to supplement their income.

As the business grew, Bill and his son Brian expanded their operations, selling from a stall at Erdington market and eventually building one of the first 'garden centres' in Hardwick road. Our reputation for quality and service has only continued to grow, with floristry becoming a significant part of our business.

Our Services

Today, we offer a wide range of services, including a garden centre, floristry, weddings, and sympathy flowers, as well as a beautiful cafe overlooking the stunning Bourne Pool. Our cafe serves delicious breakfast, lunch, and hot and cold drinks, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
