Transform your style, transform your life

Dhanakosa Buddhist Retreat Centre is a sanctuary for individuals seeking to reconnect with their inner selves and engage with the Buddha's teachings. Nestled in the scenic landscapes of the Scottish Highlands' southern region and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Dhanakosa offers a conducive environment for those embarking on a spiritual journey. Our retreats cater to a diverse range of interests, including yoga, hillwalking, Qi Gong, creative arts and movement, as well as meditation and Buddhist study retreats tailored for varying expertise levels.

History of Dhanakosa

Initially a hotel and gourmet restaurant, Dhanakosa was acquired by the Glasgow Buddhist Centre in 1992 through a leasehold agreement. The Centre's first retreat was held in September of the same year. In 2002, the Dhanakosa Trust was established and purchased the property with help from a loan provided by Triodos Bank. The Trust, a registered Scottish charity (no. SCO32776), manages Dhanakosa's daily operations with assistance from a resident team under the guidance of a board of trustees.

Since 1992, Dhanakosa has operated under a payment by donation financial model, a system derived from traditional Buddhist practices. This innovative economic approach has allowed us to continuously improve our facilities and teaching, ensuring a comfortable and fulfilling experience for all.

Meet the Community

Fostering a warm and supportive community at Dhanakosa is essential to our vision. Our retreats attract those committed to exploring the Buddha's teachings and integrating traditional and contemporary approaches to Buddhist practice. Our participants, facilitators, and team members collaborate to create a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere that encourages reflection and personal growth.

Visiting Dhanakosa

Visitors are welcome to experience Dhanakosa's tranquil surroundings and join our retreats, regardless of prior experience with meditation or Buddhism. Our retreat offerings include introductory meditation teachings for beginners and meditation and Buddhist study retreats for more regular practitioners. We recommend reviewing our retreat calendar and subscribing to our mailing list for updates on upcoming programmes.

Get Involved

Contributing to Dhanakosa's success can happen in numerous ways. We offer opportunities for giving to Dhanakosa, enabling us to maintain and enhance our facilities, teaching offerings, and overall experience. Volunteering and working with us allow individuals to become more deeply involved with the Dhanakosa community.
