Our Product Philosophy

At Dunster Heat, we believe in simplicity, reliability, and sustainability. Our products are all manufactured to a high quality, without unnecessary complexity, making them simple to operate and maintain. We work with manufacturing partners who have a proven track record of reliability and successful results, and all Vigas boilers are fuelled by sustainable wood or wood pellet fuel, designed to minimize harmful environmental emissions.

Grants Available for Biomass Heating Installations

We are proud to offer our customers access to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), a government scheme that provides financial support for renewable heat installations. Biomass installations qualifying for the RHI will generate a guaranteed income for up to twenty years and save up to 70% on your heating costs.

Why Biomass Heating?

Biomass is a renewable, low carbon fuel that is widely available throughout the UK. Its production and use bring substantial environmental and financial benefits. Biomass is a sustainable fuel that when applied to one of our heating systems will reduce your heating costs and utilize your wood with a fixed guaranteed return.

Unlike fossil fuel, wood is a renewable energy. When burned, the carbon dioxide (CO2) that is released into the atmosphere is only the CO2 that the plant would release when it died and decomposed. Biomass boilers are extremely efficient and can achieve over 90% efficiency - dramatically more than conventional boilers.

Logs are the most common of wood fuel available in the UK. Log boilers, when burned at full capacity, can have efficiencies of up to 92%. Biomass is an opportunity for consumers to take control of the energy they use and not be constrained by the fluctuating oil prices we encounter year on year.

Supply of Wood Fuel

The satisfaction that can be found from growing your own food or building your own house can extend to supplying your own wood fuel. Any wood can potentially be used for wood fuel as long as it is dry. The worst quality timber makes the best sense as wood fuel.

How much wood fuel do I need?

A rule of thumb for wood fuel that appears to be useful is that under normal use for each 1 kW of boiler output rate - 0.4 tonnes of dry wood is needed per year. Therefore, a 5kW log burner providing space heating for a lounge would need 2 dry tonnes, while a 25 kW log boiler providing central heating and hot water for a house would need 10 dry tonnes, and an 80 kW log boiler providing central heating and hot water for a large building would need 32 dry tonnes.
