Our journey began in the early seventies, with a fascination for the vibrant cultures of India and the Far East. Since then, we've dedicated ourselves to sourcing the finest products from talented artisans and skilled craftsmen, ensuring that every item that leaves our workshop is a testament to the beauty of traditional craftsmanship.

Our Story

Our founder's love affair with India and the Far East began with a magic bus trip overland to India in the early seventies. This life-changing experience opened their eyes to the wonders of new cultures, with their kaleidoscope of colours and sounds. The journey sparked a passion for learning about textiles, and how silk, cotton, and wool were woven, dyed, and crafted. Over the next couple of years, our founder spent all their time learning about textiles, buying bedcovers, shawls, and rugs in traditional designs, and importing them to the UK to sell at Camden Lock Market in London.

Our Mission

Ten years ago, our founder met their partner, Peter, who had been travelling in Morocco, buying rugs and copperware. Together, they joined forces to create World Basket, trading and importing beautiful goods from around the world. We take great pride in personally selecting the best products at affordable prices, building on our long-term relationship with our suppliers, and ensuring that all our workers are paid a fair wage and work in a clean and safe environment, with no child labour used.
