Rye Dance Centre

Rye Dance Centre is a leading dance school that offers high-quality technical and artistic training in a friendly and enjoyable environment. Established in 1982 by Principal and Teacher Fellow Jo Fletcher, the school has been providing dance education to children and adults for over 38 years. With a team of caring, professional, and qualified teachers, Rye Dance Centre offers a wide range of dance classes for all ages and abilities, from 6 months to adults, beginners to experienced dancers.

At Rye Dance Centre, we believe that dance is a wonderful way to expand one's love of movement and theatre. We offer classes in various dance styles, including ballet, modern, tap, and contemporary, and we follow the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) for all our examinations. All pupils have the opportunity to enter ISTD examinations, and we encourage them to participate in shows, pantomimes, and performances, as well as optional festivals to compete with fellow dancers and socialise.

Rye Dance Centre is not only a place for learning dance but also a community of dancers who support and inspire each other. We welcome anyone who is interested in dance, whether they want to take it up as a hobby or pursue a professional career. Our teachers are dedicated to providing the best possible training, and we strive to create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone can feel comfortable and confident.

Meet Our Staff

Our staff is a team of dedicated and experienced teachers who are passionate about dance and education. They bring their expertise and enthusiasm to every class they teach, ensuring that our pupils receive the best possible training.

• Jo Fletcher (Principal & Teacher Fellow) - Jo is a Fellow and Examiner in ISTD Modern, Ballet & Tap, and has been teaching dance for over 38 years. She opened Rye Dance Centre in 1982 and has been the Principal and Teacher Fellow ever since. Jo is an approved tutor for all units of the DDE and Status exams and continues to run her school with love and passion.
• Chloe Hall (Dance Teacher) - Chloe gained her DDE qualifications in Ballet, Modern and Tap and has a Licentiate in Tap and Modern, which she completed at Rye Dance Centre. Chloe assists and teaches full time at the school.
• Natasha Poyton (Dance Teacher) - Natasha is currently completing her DDE Modern and studying for the same in Ballet. She continues to be a valuable member of the Rye Dance Centre teaching team.
• Sharon Parker (Dance Teacher) - Sharon completed her DDI in both Modern and Tap and is continuing teaching at Rye Dance Centre whilst working in a local nursery as a deputy manager.
