At my practice based on the Lisburn Road, Belfast, Northern Ireland, I believe that health is not just the absence of disease - but a positive feeling of well-being and balance: physically, mentally, emotionally - the three are not separate. I work with you to help you to get your body back into that balance and therefore health, by treating not only the symptoms or pains that you experience, but working on the root cause of why and how they arose. Not merely masking symptoms, but working towards a goal of long-term recovery and health. I want to empower you, and educate you about your health and well-being, working with you to help make realistic changes where needed towards your own health goals, whatever they mean to you. That could range from correcting posture for back pain, to breathing techniques for anxiety, or some changes in the foods you eat. I am passionate about treating everyone as an individual, with your own needs, and not just identifying you by your symptoms or disease. You are a whole person and each of us is unique.

Our Services

We offer a combination of therapies not widely known in N. Ireland to achieve this: acupuncture, tuina, qi gong, naturopathy, and Chinese nutrition. The benefits of these therapies include:

  • Effective and safe approach for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions
  • Addressing the underlying cause of disease and illness as well as the symptoms
  • An holistic approach to disease and illness, treating the body, mind, and spirit together
  • Assisting in the prevention of disease and the maintenance of general health and well-being
  • A drug-free approach, that nevertheless can be used in conjunction with Western medicine

Treatments

We offer a range of treatments including Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxa, and Tuina.

  • Acupuncture: Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, and its effects are increasingly being studied and confirmed in the West. Acupuncture uses very fine needles, a fraction of the size of needles that you may have seen before, in specific points on the body to restore and maintain balance.
  • Cupping: Cupping is a very old therapeutic technique, mentioned in texts as far back as 168 BC. It has been widely used in China and many parts of Europe, Egypt, and The Americas.
  • Moxa: Moxa is a type of herbal remedy which can be used to treat a range of conditions.
  • Tuina: Tuina is a form of traditional Chinese massage, which can be used to treat a range of conditions.

Our Approach

At the first consultation, I take a full medical history to discover all the signs which, when taken together, give a complete picture of your state of health. Your pulses on both wrists may be taken, and your tongue examined. This allows me to determine the balance of your health in different parts of your body. Then I decide which of the hundreds of acupuncture points will be best to use for you on that day. After the needles are inserted, you lie for about 30 minutes while you relax. Most people report a deep sense of calm, and improved sleep after a session.

Changes You Can Expect

Since each person is unique, the number of treatments required will vary. Sometimes changes can be felt after only a few visits, while others may require more visits and the effects felt less rapidly. Usually, weekly or even twice-weekly treatment sessions are best at the start. Your treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you at the first session and kept under review.
