At Paul Rigden Carpentry and Joinery, we have been providing the East Sussex area with high-quality bespoke joinery for over three decades. Our founder, Paul Rigden, completed a traditional six-year apprenticeship in 1986 and has been dedicated to his craft ever since. With a rich heritage of woodworking that includes boat builders and sawmill owners, Paul has a true passion for working with wood that is reflected in every job we undertake.

Our services range from simple furniture repairs to large construction projects and even windmill repairs. We take great care in selecting the highest quality materials for every job, ensuring that they are suitable for their intended form, function, and durability. We use only the finest traditional methods of construction, and our attention to detail is exemplary. Whether we are carrying out repairs to an old oak door or building a high-quality oak-framed building extension, we are committed to delivering the highest level of craftsmanship.

Oak Framed Buildings

An oak frame makes an extremely suitable building frame for many reasons. Its strength and robustness are vital for most building frames, as they must support the heavy load of a roof and possibly a storey above, and withstand the huge forces of nature. Any failure could be catastrophic, which is why we design our oak frames to make the most of the material's strength.

Oak is also a naturally hard and durable material that becomes increasingly so as it ages. It is best left in its natural state, and if designed well, built from the correct material, and in the correct way, an oak frame can last many, many years - and very probably longer than a typical modern building. In the right hands, a traditionally constructed oak framed building is not just a practical structure, but a work of art.

If you have the capability and choose to assemble yourself or have your own contractor, then frames can also be produced on a 'supply only' basis, with a full advice service.
