Spread love and happiness, one gift at a time.
At Moorland Veterinary Centre, we are a mixed practice located in the market town of Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Our aim is to provide a top-quality service in a happy and relaxed atmosphere, and we are proud of our traditional values. Our dedicated team strives to give clients a friendly and affordable service, and we are not part of any large veterinary group.
Our History
Historically, the origins of the practice can be traced back to 1900, when it was first set up as H. McIntyre's surgery. The practice managed to carry on through both World Wars and was later taken over by E. J. Hodgkinson from 1946 until his retirement in 1984. The practice previously operated from Buxton Road, Leek (now a chiropodists) opposite the Royal Oak pub (now part of Park Medical Centre). In 1980, the practice moved to St Luke's House, which was originally the vicarage for St. Luke's church in Fountain Street and has been converted to house the veterinary clinic.
Our Facilities
We offer a range of facilities at Moorland Veterinary Centre, including modern and well-equipped surgical facilities with active waste scavenging, pulse oximetry, capnography, and close patient monitoring and recording. Our hospitalisation facilities include purpose-built dog and cat kennels, where you are welcome to visit your pet while they receive treatment. Our nurses are an integral part of our care team, providing advice on many pet-related matters and involved in monitoring anaesthetics and more. We are also an approved nurse training practice, inspected annually and adhering to RCVS training standards.
Our Services
At Moorland Veterinary Centre, we cover a wide variety of large animal work, including TB testing and preventative healthcare visits, pregnancy scanning and fertility work, and emergency call-outs. We also have a Small Holders Club, which has seen an increase in smallholders in the practice, including a number of more unusual farm species!
