The Tolcarne Inn is a historic maritime pub that has been serving the community of Newlyn Harbour for over 300 years. Established in 1717, the pub has been a welcoming spot for miners, seafarers, artists, and food lovers alike. Today, the Tolcarne Inn stands as a testament to Cornwall's rich maritime history, offering a relaxing setting for all seasons.

The Food

At the Tolcarne Inn, we pride ourselves on serving the freshest and best local produce. Our chalkboard menu evolves with the seasons, reflecting the abundance of local seafood and produce. As a celebrated seafood destination, our catch of the day is sourced directly from the local fishmongers, ensuring the freshest fish delivered to our door each day. Our commitment to sustainability means that we work closely with local growers, market gardens, and community farms to bring the best of land and sea to your table.

Headed up by renowned Cornish Chef Ben Tunnicliffe, our menu offers vegetarian options and can be adapted to suit specific dietary requirements. From mackerel and cod to scallops, crab, and mussels, our dishes combine flavours simply and instinctively, allowing the quality of the ingredients to speak for themselves.

The Chef

Ben has been a champion of Cornwall's food scene since he settled here in 2001. After holding a Michelin Star at The Abbey in Penzance, Ben went on to oversee the launch of the food offering at The Scarlet - Cornwall's leading luxury hotel. Looking for a project of his own, and hankering after a humble setting in which his food could take center stage, Ben took over the Tolcarne Inn in 2012.

Sheltering behind the sea wall in a bustling fishing port, just a stone's throw from Newlyn's famous fish market, the pub was the ideal vessel for showcasing the bounty of Cornish waters. As a celebrated chef, Ben has been featured in national publications for his culinary talents and commitment to using local produce.

The Pub

At the Tolcarne Inn, we offer a range of services designed to make your visit an enjoyable one. From serving local ales and ciders to a carefully curated wine list that is specially designed to complement our seafood offering, our aim is to provide a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere in which to unwind.

Our pub is open every day, offering lunch and dinner service, as well as small plates at lunchtime. We offer vegetarian options and can adapt dishes to suit specific dietary requirements. During the summer months, we are open all day, while in the winter we close between lunch and dinner service, reopening for drinks at 5 pm.
