Our Lias Stone
Lias is a clayey limestone from the early Jurassic period, found mainly in the south west of England. It is often coloured by the fossils and ores contained within, making it a unique and durable building material. We source our Lias stone from our sustainable quarry at Ashen Cross, where it is extracted and processed with care to ensure its quality and integrity.
Blue Lias is coloured by the iron content of the rock, with layers of limestones and shale. This variety of Lias is usually found in the Somerset and Dorset areas, and is commonly used in flooring and building applications. White Lias Stone, on the other hand, occurs mainly in Somerset and is a fine-grained form of limestone, dating back to the late Triassic Period.
