Empowering Patients to Achieve Healthy and Confident Skin

Welcome to the Abingdon Bowling Club, a registered charity and an affiliated member of both Bowls England and the Royal County of Berkshire Bowling Association. We are also associated with the English Short Mat Bowling Association and the Oxfordshire Short Mat Bowling Association. Our club is a place that encourages people of all ages and abilities to come and enjoy the sport of bowls.

Our club is located in the heart of Abingdon, in Albert Park, Park Crescent. The club was established in 1913 as a men's only club, but in 1971, we welcomed ladies to play as well. The club's green is leased from Christ's Hospital, a charity that manages the park. The park is a Victorian creation and has over 300 species of trees, making it a beautiful location for our club.

Abingdon Bowling Club has a membership of 190, made up of outdoor playing members, indoor short mat members, and social members. We are proud to have such a diverse age range, from teenagers to those over 80+ years. Our club is affiliated with the Royal Berkshire County Bowling Association, even though Abingdon has been a part of Oxfordshire since 1974.

Playing Opportunities

If you decide to join our club, you'll have many playing opportunities, most weekends with friendly mixed matches against other local clubs. As your game improves, there are opportunities to play for the men's teams in the Berkshire Kl or KLV leagues on either Tuesday evenings or Thursday afternoons. The ladies play in the Berkshire Ridgeway league on Thursday evenings.

We have a six-rink green that is one of the finest in the area, and our clubhouse and bar offer a friendly welcome and excellent facilities for our bowling and social members.

In 2014, we introduced short mat bowling for the winter months (Late September to Early April). We play in the Oxfordshire Short Mat afternoon triples league and the evening fours league. If you are interested in playing short mat, please contact Steve Morris on Mob 07789183804.

Facilities

Our club has excellent facilities that cater to both our bowling and social members. The six-rink green is well-maintained and is one of the finest in the area. Our clubhouse and bar offer a friendly welcome, and members can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat after a game.

Documents

In the document section, members and prospective members will find useful documents about the club's constitution, the club handbook, and the new members application form.

CCTV

In October 2022, CCTV cameras were installed at the club. There are two outside, one in the hall, and one in the lounge. All cameras are running 24 hours a day.
