Enhance Your Home with Style and Excellence
Located in the heart of Egham, Surrey, our museum is a treasure trove of local history and heritage. Nestled within the Literary Institute, a beautiful 18th-century building on the High Street, we have been serving the communities of Egham, Egham Hythe, Englefield Green, Thorpe, and Virginia Water since 1968. Our mission is to explore and preserve the rich history of the local area, from its earliest settlers in the Neolithic and Bronze Ages to the present day.
Discover the Past, Shape the Future
When you visit Egham Museum, you will embark on a fascinating journey through time. Discover the events that shaped our town, from the sealing of the Magna Carta at nearby Runnymede by King John to the rise of Le Mans winning cars built on the Causeway to Staines. Learn about the fascinating people who left their mark on our town, such as Thomas Holloway and his fortune that established the Royal Holloway College and Sanatorium.
A Community Hub
Egham Museum is not just a place to learn about history; it's also a community hub. We offer a variety of activities, games, and quizzes for all ages, and our Museum Blog is a platform for local people to share their memories and stories. Our Documentary Project Resources and Explore Behind the Glass sections offer a deep dive into the museum's collections, while our I remember. Then & Now section invites visitors to share their own memories of Egham.
Accessibility and Inclusion
We are committed to making our museum accessible to all. While our museum is located on the first floor of the Literary Institute, we have an Access Statement available to help visitors plan their visit. We also offer out-of-hours visits for groups and longer visits by appointment.
Volunteering and Support
Egham Museum is a free entry local community organisation and charity and relies on grants, donations, and the support of our volunteers to survive. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities, from front-of-house roles to research and collections care. If you would like to support the museum, please consider making a donation or becoming a patron.
