At Rushden Historical Transport Society, we are passionate about preserving the rich history of transportation in our region. Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff work tirelessly to maintain and restore our Heritage Railway, Goods Shed, Transport Museum, Buffet Carriage, and Station Bar to their former glory. We are committed to providing an exceptional visitor experience, offering a unique blend of education, entertainment, and nostalgia.
Our History
Established in 1984, our society has grown from humble beginnings to become a beloved institution in the local community. Over the years, we have worked hard to acquire and restore a vast collection of transport-related artifacts, including rolling stock, locomotives, and historical buildings. Today, we are proud to offer a range of services and attractions that cater to visitors of all ages and interests.
Our Services
We offer a diverse range of services and attractions, including:
- Heritage Railway: Our Heritage Railway features a wide range of rolling stock and runs selected stock on event days. With over half a mile of track, there is scope for variety.
- Goods Shed: Our Goods Shed provides a large and modern undercover space for events and exhibitions, preserving its original features and heritage.
- Transport Museum: Located in the Old Midland Railway Station of 1894, our Transport Museum houses a range of transport-related exhibits from the area.
- Buffet Carriage: Our Gresley Buffet Carriage serves a range of hot and cold food on most event days and is available for private hire.
- Buffer Stop Shop: Our Buffer Stop Shop offers a range of souvenirs, gifts, and memorabilia on the platform next to the railway office.
- Station Bar: Our Station Bar offers a wide selection of real ales, craft ciders, wines, spirits, and snacks in an historic, friendly, and olde-worlde atmosphere.
