We also offer afternoon tea, perfect for a special treat or a refreshing break during your golf game.
Golf Course
Our golf course is renowned for its challenging layout, winding through heather, gorse, pine, and silver birch trees. The course is playable 365 days a year, thanks to our fantastic ground and hardworking greenkeepers. We are proud to be regarded as one of the finest coastal heathland golf courses in Britain, and one of the top 100 golf courses in England.
History
Our course was designed by James Braid, one of the greatest golf course designers in history. Braid respected nature and let the lie of the land dictate the path for his fairways, tees, and greens. Our course has been carefully maintained to preserve its natural beauty, and we are proud to be a part of the rich golfing heritage of the Suffolk coast.
Golfing Experience
The golfing experience at Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club has been described as exceptional, with the course being challenging but rewarding. The greens are fast and have hidden breaks, while the fairways are plush and the rough is thick and difficult to navigate. The par-3 holes are particularly challenging and varied, and the course's finishing holes are impressive.
Staff and Service
The staff at the hotel have been praised for their exceptional friendliness and professionalism. They work well as a team and ensure guests have a great experience. The service is top-notch, and staff are welcoming and enthusiastic.
Food and Drink
The food at the hotel's restaurant is highly praised, with guests enjoying beautifully presented and delicious meals. The breakfast is particularly good, and the bar snacks are also enjoyed. However, one guest noted that the coffee at breakfast was better than the Nescafe sachets provided in the room.
Rooms and Accommodation
The rooms at the hotel are comfortable and clean, with some guests appreciating the patio rooms with direct access to the outdoors. Some guests noted that the rooms could benefit from a coffee machine or better coffee options than the provided Nescafe sachets. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are adequate, although one guest noted that older guests might struggle with the bath/shower combination.
Location and Activities
The hotel is well-located for guests who enjoy walking and exploring the local area. Aldeburgh is within walking distance, and the nearby boating lake is a popular activity. The hotel's surroundings are peaceful and offer plenty of opportunities for relaxation and leisure.
