Made to use. Made to last. Made for you.

Welcome to Canterbury Pottery, a family-run business nestled in the heart of the historic city of Canterbury, in the shadow of the city's magnificent cathedral. For over six decades, Richard & Jan Chapman, a husband and wife team, have been creating practical, dynamic and versatile pottery that is designed to be used and enjoyed every day. Our pottery is handmade in our studio, located at the back of our quirky shop, where you can often find us crafting a wide variety of 'weird and wonderful' pots.

Our Pottery

At Canterbury Pottery, we specialise in high-fired stoneware that is both practical and beautiful. Our pots are suitable for use in the oven, microwave and dishwasher, making them the perfect addition to any contemporary kitchen. Each item we create is unique, with pots that are continually evolving and changing. If you need help choosing a glaze, please use our 'Enquiry' form, as all of the items featured on our website can be ordered through our online store or via email.

Understanding Our Glazes

Colour can be transformative in a room, and at Canterbury Pottery, we take great care in creating sumptuous glazes that interweave and merge to create stunning effects. We have spent forty years perfecting our glazes, and we are proud of the unique and dynamic range of colours we have created. If you would like to learn more about our glazes, please read our 'Understanding our glazes' page, which is available on each product page and at the bottom of our Home page under Information.

Our History

Canterbury Pottery was founded in 1963 by Betty Chapman, Richard's mother, after she had graduated from the Royal College of Art. Over the years, our pottery has evolved to reflect changing fashions and lifestyles. We are proud of our heritage and the practical, dynamic and versatile pots we have produced over the past six decades.
