History of Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that combines elements of traditional Korean martial arts, such as Taekkyeon and Subak, as well as influences from other martial arts such as Karate and Kung Fu. Taekwondo is characterized by its emphasis on high, fast, spinning kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques. It is also known for its unique patterns, called Poomsae, that are used for both training and competition.

Taekwondo has a rich history that dates back over 2,000 years, with its roots in the ancient Korean kingdoms of Koguryo, Baekje, and Silla. During this time, martial arts were used for military training and self-defense, as well as for entertainment and sport. In the 20th century, Taekwondo was formalized and standardized, eventually becoming an official sport in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Traditional vs Sports Taekwondo

At Hadri Taekwondo Academy, we believe in the importance of both traditional and sports Taekwondo. Traditional Taekwondo emphasizes the philosophical and ethical aspects of the art, as well as its self-defense techniques. Sports Taekwondo, on the other hand, focuses on the physical and competitive aspects of the art, with an emphasis on sparring and competition.

We believe that combining both traditional and sports Taekwondo provides a well-rounded and balanced approach to learning and practicing Taekwondo. Our classes incorporate elements of both, providing a comprehensive learning experience that benefits every individual.

Self-Defense and Fitness

Taekwondo is a highly effective form of self-defense, teaching individuals how to defend themselves against attackers through the use of powerful kicks, strikes, and blocks. At Hadri Taekwondo Academy, we provide self-defense training that is practical, effective, and easy to learn.

In addition to self-defense, Taekwondo provides a full-body workout that improves fitness, flexibility, and strength. Our classes provide a fun and challenging workout that benefits both body and mind.

Belt System in Taekwondo

The belt system in Taekwondo is a symbol of rank and progress, with each belt representing a different level of skill and achievement. At Hadri Taekwondo Academy, we follow the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) belt system, which consists of 10 colors: white, yellow, green, blue, red, black, and three degrees of each color belt.

Our classes provide a clear path for progression, with students working towards their next belt through regular practice, training, and examinations.

Taekwondo Poomsae

Poomsae are a series of prearranged movements that are used for both training and competition. At Hadri Taekwondo Academy, we teach a variety of Poomsae that incorporate both traditional and modern elements. Our classes provide a structured and focused approach to learning and mastering Poomsae, with students encouraged to practice and perfect their techniques.
