The History of Spindle Cottage
The story of Spindle Cottage begins in 1965 when Angela and Alban purchased two condemned terrace houses that were to become this enchanting abode. The houses were in a dire state, with leaking bucket toilets, green walls from the rain pouring in, and every period feature hidden or cemented over. However, despite its dilapidated state, the couple saw the potential in the property and set to work, transforming it into the work of art it is today.
The restoration was a labour of love, with Alban's carpentry skills proving invaluable. He fashioned the features and fittings that give the houses their unique character, adorning each piece with a small mushroom engraving that has become his signature. He even worked in miniature, creating intricate carvings that await the imagination and creative minds of those who stay.
