A warm welcome awaits. and a challenging round of golf!
Sherborne Golf Club, established in 1894, is a charming 18-hole parkland course designed by the renowned James Braid. The course, measuring just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for golfers of all skill levels. With a variety of teeing options, both the elite and novice golfer can enjoy a satisfying round while taking in the stunning vistas of the Blackmore Vale to the South and Glastonbury Tor to the North.
At Sherborne Golf Club, we take pride in our warm and friendly atmosphere, extending a hearty welcome to members and visitors alike. Our active membership enjoys a full calendar of golf and social events throughout the year. We are also delighted to host societies and visitors, providing excellent golf, delicious home-cooked food, and a fine selection of beer and wine.
The Course
The course underwent significant changes in 1936 when James Braid designed 10 new holes on the land south of the lane and redesigned the old 9 holes into 8 of an entirely different character. During the war years, the club reverted to 9 holes before returning to its current 18-hole layout in 1964. Notable golfers, including Peter Alliss, John Jacobs, Bernard Hunt, and Dai Rees, participated in an exhibition match to celebrate the re-opening.
Our course boasts a diverse range of holes that require different strategies and shot-making abilities. The par-72 layout includes a mix of long and short holes, providing a well-rounded test of golf. With beautiful views and mature trees lining the fairways, Sherborne Golf Club offers an unforgettable golfing experience.
