Welcome to Amberley Museum, a unique destination that offers a fascinating glimpse into the working past of the South. Nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, our museum is conveniently located near Arundel, West Sussex, and can be found at New Barn Road, BN18 9LT.

At Amberley Museum, we are dedicated to preserving and showcasing the industrial heritage of the South. Our museum is set in a former chalk quarry and limeworks, which provides a unique and atmospheric backdrop for our extensive collection of exhibits. With over 40 exhibit areas to discover, our museum offers a wealth of knowledge and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Our exhibits span a diverse range of industries, from transportation and communications to rural crafts and industry. Visitors can ride on our narrow-gauge railway, explore our historic buses, and witness traditional crafts such as blacksmithing and pottery in action. Our communication displays are also not to be missed, featuring a wide range of historic technologies that have shaped the way we communicate today.

At Amberley Museum, we are proud to have a dedicated team of knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. They are on hand to demonstrate, chat, and reminisce with visitors, making for a truly memorable experience.

Opening Times & Tickets

We are open 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 4.30pm. Our main season runs from 10th February 2024 to 3rd November 2024, and we are also open on Bank Holidays. Please note that for the next few months, entry to the Museum will be through the shop only as works continue in the adjoining railway siding. This historic doorway is 76cm wide and may be too narrow for large mobility scooters and double buggies. If you are planning to visit and feel this may be an issue, please call us on 01798 831370 to discuss the options to enable you to access the site. We apologise for any inconvenience while the works take place.

We offer a range of ticketing options to suit your needs. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or on the day at our admissions desk. We also offer discounted rates for groups, schools, and special events.

Getting Here

Our museum is easily accessible by car, with free on-site parking available. We are also accessible by public transport, with regular bus services running from Arundel and Horsham. For those travelling by train, the nearest station is Amberley, which is just a short walk from the museum.

Group Visits

We welcome group visits to Amberley Museum and offer discounted rates for parties of 15 or more. We also offer pre-booked guided tours and catering options for groups. Please contact us in advance to arrange your group visit.

Visiting with Children

Amberley Museum is a fantastic day out for families with children of all ages. We offer a range of activities and exhibits that are designed to engage and educate children about the working past of the South. We also have a play area and picnic facilities, making for a fun and relaxing day out for the whole family.
