Safeguarding Policy & Sun Protection

Ballards Gore Golf Club is fully committed to the safeguarding of both children and adults. To access our Children's Safeguarding Policy, please click here. To view our Adults Safeguarding Policy, please click here.

We are also dedicated to promoting sun protection and raising awareness of skin cancer, subscribing to the Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign. We strive to protect the health of our staff, members, and visitors, as those who spend extended periods outdoors without proper sun protection are at a heightened risk of skin cancer. The incidence of melanoma has more than doubled in women and tripled in men over the last 30 years, necessitating our proactive approach.

The sun poses a risk to your skin between March and October, particularly when the UV Index is 3 or higher. Even on cloudy days, you can still burn, and the weather can be unpredictable. Therefore, it's crucial to begin every day, whether working or playing, 'sun prepared':

  • Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF30+) on exposed skin, sunglasses, and a brimmed hat.
  • Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before UV exposure to ensure it is adequately absorbed.
  • Drink water regularly to stay hydrated and alert.
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours on sunny days or more often if sweating.
  • Utilise a sunscreen applicator, chubby stick, or a small towel to avoid a greasy grip.
  • Pay special attention to lips, nose, ears, and the back of the neck as these areas are prone to burning.
  • Select shade when possible, particularly on hot days.
  • Remember that sunscreen can easily be rubbed off when carrying or brushing against items.
  • Check your skin every month and consult your GP if you notice any changes.
