Tae Kwon Do is the Korean martial art of self-defence, a discipline that is similar to karate and kickboxing in many ways. However, what sets Tae Kwon Do apart is that it is not merely a physical activity but a way of life that emphasises personal growth and development. At Northwich & Stockport Tae Kwon Do Schools, we believe that martial arts can empower individuals to improve their physical fitness, mental acuity, and emotional wellbeing.

Our classes are available for both adults and children, and no prior experience is necessary. We welcome students of all ages and abilities, and our experienced instructors will tailor the training to suit each individual's needs and goals. Our schools offer a safe and supportive environment where students can learn practical self-defence techniques, build confidence, and make new friends.

Tae Kwon Do - The Art of Foot and Hand Fighting

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean term that translates to "The Art of Foot and Hand Fighting." Its origins date back over 3,000 years, and it has evolved with time to reflect the needs and aspirations of the modern martial artist. Tae Kwon Do is a versatile martial art that incorporates various techniques such as punches, kicks, blocks, and strikes.

At Northwich & Stockport Tae Kwon Do Schools, we follow the Tae Kwon Do principles and guidelines set by the TAGB (Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain). Our syllabus is structured and comprehensive, allowing students to progress at their own pace while building a solid foundation of skills and knowledge.

Children's Programme

Our children's programme focuses on teaching core values such as discipline, respect, and self-control. These values extend beyond the dojang (training hall) and into daily life, helping children develop essential life skills such as time management, goal-setting, and perseverance.

We believe that martial arts can be a fun and engaging way for children to improve their physical fitness, coordination, and flexibility. Our classes are designed to be interactive and dynamic, keeping students engaged and motivated while learning practical self-defence techniques.

Classes and Schedules

We offer classes three times a week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday in Northwich and Stockport. Our classes are divided into age-appropriate groups, ensuring that students receive the right level of training and attention.

Our Northwich school is located at Northwich Youth Centre, Winnington Lane (Opposite Victoria Infirmary), while our Stockport school is at St Philips Primary School, Half Moon Lane Offerton.

Gradings

Gradings are a significant part of Tae Kwon Do training. They serve as a measure of a student's progress and a test of their skills and knowledge. At Northwich & Stockport Tae Kwon Do Schools, we follow a structured grading system that has ten steps to black belt. Each step has a distinct level of technical expertise and knowledge to learn, allowing students to make steady progress towards defined goals.

Sparring and Competitions

Sparring is an essential aspect of Tae Kwon Do training. It teaches students how to apply their techniques in a controlled and safe environment while building confidence and competence. All sparring in class and competitions is semi-contact with full safety equipment worn to avoid risk of injury.

Competitions are a great way to showcase skills and connect with the wider Tae Kwon Do community. While not mandatory, we encourage students to participate in competitions as it can be a fun and rewarding experience.
