Nestled in the ancient landscape of Wiltshire's iconic White Horse hills, White Horse Pottery in Westbury has been a home and workplace for local potter Trevor Pictor for over two decades. Trevor learned his craft from Stephen Humm at the Pottery and took over its operations in 2001, preserving the traditional methods of pottery that have been passed down through the centuries.
Upon entering the Pottery, housed in a beautiful Victorian former school building, one cannot help but be struck by the stunning green, blue, and cream glazes that were developed by Stephen Humm and are unique to White Horse Pottery. Trevor works primarily with red earthenware clay and creates all of his pieces by hand on the potter's wheel. Visitors can find a wide range of tableware, pots for the garden, vases, lamps, wall tiles, and other unique pieces. Trevor also undertakes commissions and creates commemorative items by special arrangement.
Trevor admits that being a potter can be physically demanding, especially on a cold winter's morning. However, he takes great joy in the transformation of a hard lump of clay into an individual item with its own character and uses. He says, "There are times when I feel guilty about enjoying my work so much!".
Our Products
White Horse Pottery offers a wide range of handmade and personalised pottery pieces. White Horse Pottery undertakes a large variety of commissions, ranging from items to mark a special occasion such as a Golden Wedding to a personalised bowl for your pet. We can also produce multiple items either engraved or featuring a small plaque - for example, we currently supply personalised tankards for a local microbrewery.
