Common Problems

The individuals who usually seek assistance from Dr McCormack often grapple with psychological trauma, distress, and post-traumatic stress, or experience depression and anxiety issues. While some clients arrive with a clear understanding of the problems they wish to address, others may find it challenging to pinpoint the root cause of their distress. Personal relationships might become strained, or one may experience excessive worry, unhappiness, and struggle to determine a way forward. In such instances, the initial step involves making sense of the situation, identifying possible factors that maintain difficulties, and engaging in psychological therapy to tackle identified issues.

Psychological Therapy

Dr McCormack employs evidence-based psychotherapy, incorporating various psychological approaches tailored to clients' unique needs. While Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) serves as the primary approach due to its effectiveness in addressing numerous common psychological and emotional problems, therapy is always customised to ensure optimal support for each client's specific concerns.

Appointments and Fees

Appointments take place in a comfortable and welcoming consulting room situated in leafy south Belfast, opposite Queen's University Belfast. However, remote video appointments are also available through Microsoft Teams for those who prefer this option.

The initial appointment lasts approximately 90 minutes, and the fee for this session is 150. Subsequent therapy sessions typically last 60 minutes, and the fee is 100 per session.

First Appointment: What to Expect

If you have never attended a clinical psychologist before, it is normal to feel a little apprehensive and unsure about what to expect. During the first appointment, which lasts about 90 minutes, Dr McCormack will ask questions to understand what's troubling you, and you may be asked to complete specialised questionnaires to help assess your feelings better. By the end of the first appointment, it should be clear whether Dr McCormack can be of assistance, and if so, you can both discuss the possibility of attending for a course of therapy, aimed at overcoming the identified problems through focused psychological interventions.
