Our History
Our journey began in 1949 when PONY Magazine was launched, filling a gap in the market for a magazine dedicated to the younger rider. Since then, generations of readers have grown up with our children's magazines, transitioning to Horse&Rider as they entered adulthood. Over the years, we have expanded our children's portfolio, introducing magazines dedicated to well-known toy and TV brands while also pioneering digital development with our websites, apps and online shop. Our achievements include being crowned Independent Publisher of the Year in 2016 by the PPA, as well as winning the prestigious award for Consumer Magazine of the Year for Horse&Rider.
At DJ Murphy, we are more than just a publishing house for horse riders and the equestrian industry. We have established trust with toy manufacturers and TV production companies worldwide through our successful partnerships with creative teams. Our portfolio showcases a variety of publications, including PONY and Horse&Rider. PONY: The Annual is an annual must-read, packed with new content featuring riding and pony care, interesting breeds, stories, activities, puzzles and quizzes to keep young fans engaged throughout the year. Horse&Rider is the UK's best-selling equestrian monthly magazine, providing expert advice from top riders and leading equestrian professionals on horse care and riding. It includes inspirational features, news and views, keeping readers in touch with the wonderful world of horses.
PONY Magazine is the only magazine written exclusively for pony-mad readers aged six to sixteen. It offers expert information on handling, caring for and riding ponies, making it fun, interactive, and engaging both on and off a horse or pony.
