Our History

CastTec's roots can be traced back to 1983 when we started buying, selling, and restoring original cast-iron fireplaces. In 1984, we opened a retail shop unit in Camden Lock, Camden Town, called the Victorian Fireplace Company. In 1987, we moved the restoration side of our business to a factory unit in Washington, Tyne and Wear, and in 1989, we opened a retail showroom called Grate Expectations.

In the late 1990s, we shifted our focus from refurbished antique fireplaces to mass reproduction, marking the beginning of CastTec as a major supplier to the trade. We have since supplied the fireplace and heating industry with cast-iron fireplaces and mantels, not only as faithful reproductions but also as new contemporary designs that focus on efficiency and user-friendliness.

Our Workshops and Warehousing

We work from a 30,000 sq.ft industrial unit and stock over 1000 product lines relating to the heating industry. We have a purpose-built workshop for welding, grinding, polishing, and power filing. We also have a spray booth on the premises to apply heat-resistant paint finishes and a Stone Workshop for cutting and polishing marble, granite, and limestone.

Our Imports and Distribution

Aside from supplying many own-brand products manufactured in the UK, we import products from Europe and Asia, including marble from Italy, limestone from Turkey, granite from China, and brass from India. We deliver around 85% of our products in our own vehicles across mainland UK and pride ourselves on providing a good service to our network of independent stockists.
