They are also quiet in use, and due to the weight and concentrated mass of the battery, they are generally more maneuverable than engine-powered equivalents. The cost of recharging the battery overnight on a low-rate tariff is considerably less than replacing gas bottles or filling a tank with diesel fuel.

• Diesel Forklift Trucks: These are best for outdoor applications where they are mainly used outside. The exhaust fumes and diesel particulates escape easily to the atmosphere and do not cause environmental or health and safety issues which would occur indoors. Diesel engines are more fuel-efficient than LPG powered engines and can be run on red diesel.

• Gas - LPG Forklift Trucks: These are popular due to their competitive pricing and suitability for inside/outside usage. They have long-lasting performance and their engines are usually derivatives of car engines, making parts readily available at keen prices.

• Pedestrian Stackers - Powered Pallet Trucks: These operate on a similar principle as hand pallet trucks. The operator slides the forks into the pallet to allow for load bearing. On a powered pallet truck, however, the lifting of the load and truck movement is powered by the electric motor within the machine.
