Our History

Luxdon's story begins in 1887, when two sisters, the Misses Ramage, operated a small successful personal laundry in Syrma Place. In 1917, the laundry moved to Wycliffe Road, and in the following years, Mr. Taylor's eldest son, Henry Lumsdon Taylor, joined the family business. Mr. Taylor brought with him a wealth of experience and knowledge, having been apprenticed to the Hartlepool Laundry as a Dyer and later moving to Cardiff as an improver.

During World War I, Mr. Taylor served as a sniper in France with the famous Quayside Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers and later received a commission with the Royal Flying Corps. After the war, Mr. Taylor returned to the family business and took over as managing director. Under his leadership, the business thrived and grew, and Luxdon became a household name in the North East.
