Titus Davies

Titus Davies is an accomplished artist and furniture-maker based in the vibrant heart of Hackney, East London. With a rich background in carpentry, cabinetmaking, and fine art, Titus has honed his skills over several decades to produce an impressive range of artwork and bespoke furniture pieces. The business has its roots in the early 1980s when Titus first began his journey in the world of carpentry and furniture-making.

Furniture Commissions

Titus Davies has been designing and creating beautiful, handcrafted furniture since the early 1990s. Based in a well-equipped workshop in Walthamstow, East London, Titus has developed an extensive and diverse client base, working with private individuals, schools, institutions, architects, designers, and artists. Each piece of furniture that Titus crafts is unique and one-of-a-kind, designed and built from scratch to suit the specific needs and desires of the client. From small freestanding pieces to whole room solutions, every creation demonstrates Titus's keen eye for design and meticulous attention to detail.

In 2021, Titus collaborated with artist Claire Darwent on the 'On the marshes' project, creating a unique collection of furniture pieces from locally sourced London plane trees.

How I Work

Titus Davies believes in the importance of understanding each client's specific requirements and vision. As a result, the furniture-making process begins with a visit to the client's home to discuss ideas and observe the space where the piece will be situated. Following this meeting, Titus provides the client with a detailed design drawing and an estimate of the project's cost. Once the client is satisfied with the design, a deposit is taken before work begins, with the balance due upon completion. Throughout the construction process, clients are welcome to visit the workshop to observe the progress of their custom piece of furniture.

Artwork

Titus Davies is not only a talented furniture-maker but also an accomplished artist. His work primarily focuses on site-specific installations, photography, and collage. Through his art, Titus explores the relationship between the built environment, the domestic, and the natural world. Many of his site-specific installations animate and bring to life the politics and history of the chosen location, often incorporating wild fruit as a motif.

Alongside his artwork, Titus continues to design and craft bespoke furniture, combining the realms of art and practical cabinetmaking in his creative process. He has been running a successful furniture-making business since 1991.
