Our History

Refrigeration (Mitton) Limited is a family-owned and operated business, established in 1950 by Alfred Mitton. The Company has grown in strength to become a well-known name in Cumbria and South-West Scotland. We provide Annual Maintenance Contracts and 24-hour emergency duty engineers.

Originally providing services to shops, farms, and regional industry, the post-war years sparked much interest in refrigeration, especially in the domestic and retail markets. Alfred's son Brian Mitton took the reins in the early 80s and saw it through the boom of air-conditioning, while the commercial refrigeration side of the business was ever busy as the range of retailer and commercial systems became wider.

Now run by Alex Mitton, the company continues its well-established name. The air conditioning market still grows, along with Air-Source Heat Pump technology and inverter-driven systems, with increased focus on energy efficiency.

Meet the Team

Alex Mitton - Director

Alex joined the family business in 1997 after studying Software Engineering at Staffordshire University and made Director in 2005. He is a Member of the Institute of Refrigeration and the Dealer Principal for Carrier Transicold Cumbria in charge of the transport refrigeration section with responsibilities for Health & Safety, Environmental Policy, HR, Financial Accounts, IT, and the day-to-day operation of the Company.

Wendy Johnson - Service Administrator

Wendy joined us in 1998 and manages our service and maintenance contracts. She also liaises with customers and organises man-power. Wendy enjoys swimming, going to the gym, and spending time with her family.

Mark Jameson - Sales Engineer

Mark started in 1994 as an apprentice engineer and advanced as our senior installation engineer. Mark is responsible for designing and installing energy-efficient air conditioning and refrigeration systems for our clients.
