Notary Public Poole is a trusted provider of notarisation services for clients in the Poole and Bournemouth areas. With a strong commitment to client convenience, we offer appointments at our office or at a location that suits you. We understand that our clients often require notarial services outside of regular business hours, and we are pleased to accommodate such requests.

Notarisation Services

At Notary Public Poole, we offer a wide range of notarial services. You may need to see a notary public for the following reasons:

  • Obtaining a certified copy of a passport
  • Certifying copies of other documents, such as examination certificates
  • Buying or selling property abroad
  • Buying or selling timeshare property
  • Transferring property
  • Setting up a Power of Attorney for use abroad
  • Making a statutory declaration or swearing an oath or affidavit
  • Confirming your single status in order to marry abroad
  • Granting permission for your child to travel abroad without you
  • Obtaining duplicate documents for lost passports or other important documents
  • Getting an Apostille or legalisation
  • Lodging proof of identity at the Land Registry
  • Preparing and notarising papers for adoption of children from abroad
  • Having your contracts authenticated by a notary
  • Having a commercial translation certified by a notary
  • Assigning patents, trade marks or domain names
  • Preparing any other documents for use abroad, which require a notary stamp

Foreign Languages

Documents presented to a notary may be in a foreign language. Our notaries ensure that they and the client understand the meaning and effect of the document. While notaries do not usually give advice about the meaning or effect of a document or transaction, we encourage clients to show us any correspondence or advice received from others.

At Notary Public Poole, we may also be known as a Notario Publico, Notaio, Notario, Notar or a Notaire. We welcome clients who require notarial services for documents in foreign languages.

Legalisation or Apostille

A notarised document may often need to be further authenticated by having the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirm the validity of the notary's signature and seal. This process, known as legalisation or obtaining an apostille, is dependent on the foreign country involved. The U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office's official certificate, attached to the document, is recognised internationally due to the Hague Convention.

Identification Requirements

Following the implementation of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, notaries are required to keep sufficient evidence on their files of the identity and address of all their clients before they undertake any work. Each person whose signature they are to certify must provide one of the following original identification documents at the time of the appointment:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence (with photo card)
  • National identity card (EEA state members)
  • Armed forces pass (with photo and signature)
  • Firearms licence (with photo and signature)
  • Other government issue ID (with photo and signature)
  • Residence permit
  • Benefit book or original notification letter from Benefits Agency

In addition, we require proof of residence, which can be one of the following original documents (not more than 3 months old):

  • Bank statement or letter from bank
  • Utility bill or council tax bill (not mobile phone bill)
  • Tenancy agreement or Housing Association rent card
  • Inland revenue tax demand or self assessment statement

When we are acting for a corporate client, evidence of the due incorporation of the company or entity is required. This can be one of the following documents:

  • Extract from the company register
  • Certificate of incorporation
  • Latest report and audited accounts
  • Up to date certified copy of partnership agreement
  • Evidence of being regulated by a regulatory body

Independence and Rules

Our notaries adhere to strict rules to ensure the highest standards of practice. As officers of the court, notaries are impartial and act independently. They maintain professional indemnity insurance and follow a code of conduct. Our notaries are also subject to regulation by the Master of the Faculties and the Court of Faculties.

Public Records kept by a Notary

Notaries are required to make a full record of all notarial acts and to retain these records for a specific period. These records are available for inspection by the Master of the Faculties.

Data Protection and Privacy

At Notary Public Poole, we take data protection and privacy seriously. We have a Data Protection Privacy Notice in place, which explains how we handle personal data in the course of providing our notarial services.

Regulatory Information

Notary Public Poole is regulated by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The notaries at Notary Public Poole are members of the Notaries Society, the professional body representing notaries in England and Wales.
